Introduction   

Proper provision of secure workplaces and public areas has never been so important. Issues (including terrorism) mean that the need for security to be managed in a structured way is of paramount importance in industry, commerce and in all institutions public and private.

This course is designed to present modern security concepts in a context which will suit both the newcomer to the field as well as the more experienced practitioner. Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their workplace to discuss during the course so that the participants can learn in a practical environment.

Delivery is via delegate participation, lectures, DVD presentations and practical exercises, this five day seminar is designed for delivery to both new or recently appointed security practitioners and to experienced managers seeking to consolidate their professional skills. It would be particularly suited to those with police or military experience who are seeking to make the transition to security.

Course objectives      

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • To ensure that delegates have a working knowledge of the philosophy and principles which underpin the practice of security
  • To ensure that delegates understand the process of risk management, hazard evaluation and risk reduction.
  • To transfer the necessary technical and job-related skills to delegates.
  • To understand the legal context of security in various types of working environments.
  • To develop the ability to undertake a security threat assessment and write a plan to counter the threats disclosed
  • To be able to undertake a security survey.
  • To understand the role of security in industry and commerce as well as in the public sector.

Prerequisite                 

Security experience at supervisory or management level or service in a military unit or police/public security force.
